Since this update is about being professional, I decided to use a cleaner, professional journal skin. Perhaps this will make me feel more like an adult! Plus, I just really think this particular skin is fabulous anyway.
But yes! As of last week, I am officially employed in a full-time job, in a field that I'm interested in, after graduating from undergrad!
"But wait," you say, confused, "didn't you just get hired as an assistant teacher at a Montessori school?"
Why yes, I did! But it turns out that they don't need me as much as they thought they did. They originally had me working 9-1 M-F, but then realized that they already had enough teachers for the amount of students that were enrolled.
So, in light of this news, I went ahead and said yes to an interview offer from the hospital, where I had applied to work as an administrative assistant in the Psychiatry Department.
The interview seemed to go fairly well (or at least I thought so). They told me they'd contact me either Friday or Monday. However, Friday and Monday, and eventually Tuesday, passed, so I assumed that I didn't get the job -- something I've gotten used to recently. Rejection happens quite a lot when you apply to something like 30 jobs in a two months period.
But then, on Wednesday morning, a woman from the Psychiatry dept contacted me asking for a couple of professional references! Taking this as a good sign, I provided her with them quickly. Later that evening, while out to dinner with my family, I received a call from the doctor who had interviewed me, and she offered me the position! Naturally, I accepted.
This admin assistant position is a potentially stressful one, where most of my job entails calling other psychiatric clinics, writing up referral packets for patients, and otherwise dealing with the paperwork that the physicians, residents, and nurses simply don't have time to do. The hours are also a little unorthodox: 4:30 PM til midnight.
However, I'll have the very unique experience of working among some great health care providers in a clinical psychology environment. Plus, the guy I'm replacing, is leaving the position because he's going to go work in research! Hopefully, that's something that will happen to me once I'm ready to move on from this position.
The position is technically temporary right now, but if I like it (and they like me), it'll turn into a permanent one!
In the meantime, I have three other part-time jobs (as a standardized patient, as an assistant teacher, and as an occasional chauffeur of an 11 year old), so hopefully that will help with the bills!
Anyway, that was a really long update that most of you probably don't care about BUT I'm really excited so I had to tell you all! Hope you all are doing well
